BREAKING NEWS:

Good Girls Marry Doctors will carry a submission from

Margaret Cho!

Good Girls Marry Doctors is a book written by Asian-American women who were raised by immigrant Tiger Parents, and who struggle with balancing their parents’ expectations while fulfilling their own desires. Further, it draws on the voices of women who have not only navigated this terrain, but have fought hard to honor their upbringings while simultaneously determining their own futures. These are women have molded their lives to reflect both their personal choices and their parental culture.

We’ve all met these women: the ones whose parents have not accepted the gender/race/religion of their partners, or whose career paths have needed to focus on medicine, law or engineering for fear of being disowned by their parents. The rhetoric of shame and honor surrounding these issues, along with the often abusive threats from parents regarding keeping up with the “Asian Joneses” leads to these women feeling they are alone in their fight. This volume proves to them: they are not alone.

This is not necessarily a book about resentment. It is a book about love, and the ways in which we love and honor our culture, while at the same time questioning and molding it to our needs!

Check out our Blog, which is a space for all diasporic women to share their experiences of growing up with immigrant parents!
